IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING

What if "church" were a verb instead of a noun?

What if church was not a location to come to and stay within, but a base of operation for expressing your faith by moving out into communities and around the globe to become part of God's plan for world transformation?

If you found such a "place," would you come?

You are invited to explore the Advent UMC website to see for yourself how the people of Advent are rethinking and renewing what the church is and should be in the 21st century.

We are an active and engaged faith community.  We hope you will find a doorway at Advent that you will be comfortable walking through in order to connect with God, with the world around you, and with a community of people that will love and care for you and help you along the journey of your life.

GROWING

Our Purpose Statement
To cooperate with the Holy Spirit,
by inviting all people into relationship with Jesus Christ
through engaging worship, service and spiritual growth.
What if "church" was thought of not as a building, but as thousands of doors, each of them opening to a different concept or experience of church, so that whoever knocks might find a journey to call their own?

Becoming a true disciple of Jesus does not happen overnight . . . or even over the course of attending worship services.  It happens with commitment to living, loving and learning as Jesus did, every single day of your life.

Discipleship is an ageless and timeless journey that involves
  • Connecting with God in worship,
  • Growing in knowledge of the Lord and in relationship with others through group life, and
  • Serving others wherever the need may be.

For more information about small groups and classes at Advent UMC, contact Rev. Cindy Yanchury, Minister of Faith Formation, 651.454.3944 or email Cindy.

Men About Christian Service
aka "MACS"

MACS is a group just for men which offers opportunities for friends and members of Advent UMC to engage in study & discussion, service and fellowship.

On Tuesday mornings, MACS gather for Coffee and Conversation at 6:15 am at the Eagan Panera.  This is the book-based study group.

Regular service projects include an assembly line making sandwiches for the Simpson Homeless Shelter in Minneapolis, caretaking the lawn at the Lewis House, a shelter for women escaping domestic abuse situations, and constructing desks which are shipped around the world to students in need through the United Methodist Mission Distribution Center. Click the link below to watch a short video about the Mission Distribution Center, produced by Scott Apple, President of MACS:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ibo730gRnE

MACS guys also supply and staff the Sunday morning Coffee Bar at Advent UMC and prepare meals for a wide variety of special events at Advent, including the annual Enchanted Evening Youth Ministry Fundraiser dinner.

There are many fellowship opportunities offered through MACS including a  monthly "BurgerQuest " - dinner at area burger restaurants for all interested men, and the annual "Wing Ding" competition for the best chicken wing recipe in town!

To find out more about MACS (including a ranking of restaurants we’ve sampled during our BurgerQuest) check out their blog: http://adventmacs.blogspot.com.
